Actual home (as opposed to the main page of this site) is a ten acre smallholding in glorious west Wales. Our house was built in 1642 and was the first house in what became the current village. It includes what is described as a “nant” in Welsh - larger than a stream but smaller than a river.
We (currently) own seven dogs, three horses, five sheep, ten pet rabbits and three chickens. Some reptiles add to the challenges.
In addition to the animals we own, we all lucky enough to be visited by a wide range of wildlife, including: red kites, buzzards, badgers, otters, salmon, sea-trout, herons, ducks, woodcock, badgers, foxes, barn owls and an occasional polecat. Unfortunately - and inevitably - the list has to include rats.
Nobody believed there was a white red-kite in the area. I managed to take the following photographs to prove that I hadn’t seen a large seagull, as I had been accused.
Sometimes as many as three of them, these ‘furry crocodiles’ were regular visitors until April 2023. After that there has been only one sighting, despite the trailcams being in the same locations twenty-four hours a day.
With a nest in one of our trees, there seems to be a buzzard around a lot of the time.
The three best things about Wales are: the people; the people; the people. The scenery is pretty good, too.
